Havanese Breed Standards

Finnegan's Grandpa and Grandma

According to the Havanese Club of America (www.havanese.org), the Havanese is a small, sturdy and immensely charming dog.  The dog is a Native of Cuba.  Characteristics of the dog’s temperament, coat, structure and gait are elemental to the Havanese and easily recognized.

These little dogs are very friendly and playful.  They are intelligent and alert with a sweet disposition.  They come in all different colorings and can be one color or several.  Their coat is hair and soft and light to the touch.  It is long, abundant and wavy.

Your dog is slightly longer than it is tall.  These dogs have a long plumed tail that arches up and forward over the back.  They can be between 8 ½ inches tall to 11 ½ inches tall.

They have muscular hindquarters and a short upper arm which gives them the typical springy Havanese gait.  They are a pleasure to observe running, long hair flowing back as they spring forward.  Watching them from behind, they kind of remind me of a rabbit, because they seem to run and hop.  They are very fast.
